Kansas State University In-State Requirements:

Kansas State University is more strict when it comes to the required one-year domicile period needed to confirm your Kansas resident status, but then once in-state is earned there is a bit more leeway.  Of course our focus is on the actual domicile period and what you should expect and be prepared for in order to meet the school’s requirements for residency.  The university looks at your actions from commencement through the duration of your domicile period, and it is during this time when you must showcase that you are present in the state for reasons other than education.  Unfortunately, any attendance at the school during the domicile is a disqualifying factor.

Want to go to school full- or part-time during the domicile?  Well that says to the university that you are in Kansas for education, making you unqualified for in-state status.  Additionally, you must be employed and working in Kansas at least 30 hours per week minimum during the one-year domicile, and support yourself / expenses (the school’s belt is not as tight about this once in-state residency is earned).  Another important factor taken into consideration is your physical presence in the state.  Plan to leave Kansas and go stay with parents all summer long?  If yes then you will not get in-state status, because there is a maximum amount of days allowed for absence from the state during the domicile period.

Kansas State University Financial Aid:

A few things you need to know about financial aid as it relates to earning in-state residency:

  1. Any financial aid including grants and scholarships that require your being a tax dependent of somebody OR require you to be an out-of-state resident will in general disqualify you from establishing residency.  This means that by accepting such awards, you will be getting no closer to in-state tuition.
  2. Your financial aid is re-assessed after earning in-state status and your Expected Family Contribution will be taken into consideration in light of the reduced tuition you will owe.
